This is becoming an issue in the publishing industry too. Some agents don’t even want to talk to people without a social media presence anymore.

Companies want free advertising. That’s also why a lot of YouTubers and TikTokers tend to guest star in movies and tv shows. It’s not because of their talent (though some of them are talented don’t misinterpret me) but because they have social media followings that they can advertise the movie to. Companies don’t view artists as talent anymore. They view us as advertisers.
